    Hi,
I'd like to be able to capture internet streaming for future burning onto DVD.
Not sure on the budget at present, this is dependent upon the replies I get.
Ideally I'm looking for something mid range.

    Many thanks

Capturing streamed video from the Internet doesn't require a capture card, just (often) some kind of special downloader for streamed media (there's a good plug-in for Firefox).
Mostly, it then has to be reencoded to DVD specifications, and authored.

Lots of software can record streaming media, https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=270338

Or use a software screencapture tool like snagit.

Thanks, I'm going to check those out. But in the interim, if I wanted to watch TV over the internet and eventually burn some stuff onto DVD or from my Camcorder, any recommendations?

Is your camcorder a min-DV model ? If so, you need a firewire card or port on your PC. From there it is a simple matter of transfering data using winDV.

If you want to see a list of capture cards and user comments and ratings from this site look to your left <-

My camcorder is a mini dv.
I did read the section on capture cards, but I really wasn't able to understand a lot of it. This is why I placed this post. With help, if I can narrow down the search to my requirements, I can hopefully follow the rest through :
To recap - I'd like to be able to view streaming, internet TV and capture from my minidv, good quality, which I can later burn onto DVD. I have the full version of ULead.
I tried to research this myself - ebay have a lot of cheap capture crads and the UK market is flooded with Hauppauge. There didn't seem to be enough help on the net to decide what I need, I understand that some do not capture in AVI only Mpeg, or maybe I am missing something.

DV isn't "captured" - it's just data transfer from one device (the camera) to another (the computer). You need a FireWire card/port in your computer, that's all. You'll get a DV AVI file in your computer, that you then can reencode to other formats like DVD.
And, as said before, viewing/"capturing" video streams from the web doesn't need anything special either.

Again, digital channles "on the net" don't require a TV card. Digital TV cards are for displaying free to air digital TV stations.

Unless you have another meaning for "on the net"

    So far you need:

    a fast internet connection,
a browser with correct media viewers installed and linked
a stream or screen software capture utility (see Baldrick's message)
an IEEE-1394 port and WinDV (for the camcorder)

And yes a computer with a display card.
Most display cards only offer acceleration for MPeg. MPeg usually isn't used for streaming but a display card will assist DVD playback.

No need for a hardware capture card for anything you've mentioned so far.

NO! You only need a TV card for watching and capturing "over the air" broadcasts. Not 'net broadcasts.

Ok. Thank you - I've understood.
My PC didn't have a USB2, I have now brought a host controller.
Capturing Streaming, I have only tried this for YouTube and I downloaded keepDVD. The Trial version captured it, but the decoder didn't work. Either way, the decoder will only encode 90 seconds, you need to purchase the full version. But since the trail version didn't seem to work for me, or at least, the little time I spent with it, I may need to look for something else, perhaps the mozilla browser.
One final question : I watch a Greek Music channel, ( www.mad.gr ) am I correct in assuming that if I want to capture any of these music videos, I should follow the instructions Baldrick created under https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=270338
    Thanks

From my point of view, "capturing" the content is one thing. Converting it to some other format is another business alltogether. For that part, look up the format you've captured under the CONVERT section left.

If you use FireFox, have a look at the VideoDownloader plugin - it seems to work pretty well. If the video WMV format, have a look at the free SDP MultiMedia program. I have used it couple of times successfully.
