Hi, I'm trying to create a flash avatar from 2 AVI's, 100x100 pixels. The first 50x100 would be from 1 avi and the other half from the other, I want the 2 playing side by side simultaneously. The file also has to be under 75kb.

Flash8 lets me embed a video, File->Import->Import Video... I choose the start and stop points for my flash segment and then it cuts out that segment and places it on the stage so i can free transform if i want. I'm having 2 problems:

    A) It's hard for me to crop the vid because u can only see the first frame of the original vid, i want to crop based on my clip.
    B) If I create the 100x100 using only 1 vid I get a file around 60kb, however, if I place 2 vids side by side inside the 100x100.. I get a file around 130kb. Both vids are about the same playing length and have almost the same number of frames.

Why do I get a significantly larger file if i have 2 videos? I mean either way its still only 100x100 worth of data right? How can I do this more efficiently so I can get it under 75kb? Also, is it possible to crop after u have placed the clip onto the stage? I dont see an option for it anywhere..just free transform..

    Thanks!

If one is ~60k, then it makes sense for the two together to be 120-130k, so I don't know why you are suprised. My advice would be to use AVISynth to crop/resize to 50x100 and encode using the included flv encoder. Once you have the size right you can import into flash. You could also whilst using AVISynth use stackhorizontal() to merge the two into one video. Not sure which way would work better.

Thanks, your 2nd advice worked for me, i used AVISynth and AVSEdit to trim and crop the file to 50x100 and then used stackhorizontal() to combine them. When I imported it to flash and converted to swf, my final size was 68kb. Also, I was able to reduce the size even more to around 40k when I lowered the quality. I figured if the swf is only 100x100, you wont be able to notice the difference in quality anyway. Thanks alot!
