Now I have never done this but my son wants me to install say 5 minutes section to his his phone and PSP
I wonder how can I first identify the segment to be ripped and then encode into another format say avi?
Thanks

If it's just a chapter then use DVD Decrypter or a specific scene use DVD Shrink's re-author mode.
DVD Decrypter - use IFO mode, it's very easy.
DVD Shrink - load your disc into Shrink and hit the re-author button, drag the main movie (or whatever part you want) into the left hand pane, look above where it says 'size' and click the blue symbols. Use the slider controls to find the parts you want then click ok and then hit the backup button. He's a liar and a murderer, and I say that with all due respect. -
