Hello-what would be the easiest way to change a Pal format to a NTSC format? Any help would be appreciated.

funkymonk - Many US DVD players are able to display PAL DVDs (I assume you are talking about DVD, but you didn't say) in NTSC and send an NTSC signal out to a TV. If your player can do this, there is no need to convert. Region coding is usually a bigger problem than PAL in the US. Assuming that your PAL DVD isn't region coded or that region coding isn't a problem for your DVD player, check the setup of your DVD player and be sure that the TV output is set to NTSC. Many players default to a setting called "Any" or "Multi" and you need to change this to NTSC to watch a PAL DVD on an NTSC TV. The guides listed above can help you if you need to convert, but conversion requires re-encoding and this is a less than optimal solution.

This is true to an extent. There are DVD players sold in USA retail stores that can do PAL to NTSC but this is far from the norm. If you know what model(s) to look for then yes it is easy enough to find one otherwise ... for instance no SONY nor PANASONIC can do PAL to NTSC and those are two big name brands.

Also a proper PAL to NTSC software re-encode can look better than what most DVD players do "on-the-fly" unless you have a DVD player with a superior chipset ala the OPPO DIGITAL OPDV971H which uses the Faroudja DCDi chipset. Most of the other popular DVD players that do PAL to NTSC "on-the-fly" do not support 2:2 pulldown which is needed for the best PAL to NTSC conversion (and the OPDV971H has it).
