I am about to make a choice between Pioneer DV-490K vs Yamaha S550. Which dvd player is better ? With Pioneer DV-490K the zoom doesn't remove the 2 black bars on top and at bottom (using a conventional 4:3 TV).

I used Panasonic S-35 two years ago and this dvd player does remove top & bottom black bars when zooming 2X. Don't know why Pioneer Pioneer DV-490K can't do this. Does anybody know if Yamaha S550 can remove 2 black bars on TV screen ?

Is Yamaha S550 same as Yamaha S5750 ? How come there are 2 dvd players with different model number. Thank you very much.

The black bars are there for a reason ... removing them makes no sense as they are NOT removable.
