  2. The better the microphone the better the recording. First try the mic you have. Plug it into the cound card's Mic-in connector. Cheap mics usually roll off above 7 KHz or so. It will probably sound dull.

For software you can use the crappy little Sound Recorder that comes with Windows. Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Sound Recorder. But it only lets you record 1 minute at a time. There is a workaround for this -- if you Open a WAV file and record over it, you can record for as long as the WAV file.

Creative includes audio recording/editing software with their cards. I forget what it's called, something like Sound Trax?

  3. You might consider getting an Acoustic Guitar Pickup.

  4. I though bluraid can record the voice with the mic in mic input, and the guitar with the pick up in line input, and mixed them on the sound board. I find out when I check the mixer in audio, both line and mic input are shut off. What and how do one use the stereo mixer in the recoding ?

if you're going to use fruityloops for your "drums" on the songs, you'll want to make a click track so you keep your timing right on the guitar. You'll need a multi-track recording program. The only one I've ever used is cooledit/audition. It seemed to have the smallest learning curve so I just stuck with it (it's not a native adobe application so you don't need a college course to understand how to use it :P).

I know you can do entire songs in fruityloops but I don't know if you can record a whole guitar track or if you just have to have shorter samples of it...if you can just set up a .WAV channel in fruityloops then you should be able to just record using that program.

Just a few bits of advice..use headphones when recording so you can hear yourself and also so the mic won't pick up the other tracks playing while you're playing guitar (like a click track..etc).

As far as sound cards go..what kind of sound blaster card do you have? You can pick up the old Live platinum cards for dirt cheap nowadays..they come with a front drive bay with 1/4" connections. Or you can buy the Audigy/Audigy2 cards that have better recording circuitry.

If you get one of those cards you will have an onboard effects chip so you can add light reverb/etc. on the fly as you record. Or you can always record it clean and add fx later on.
