McDonald's tests dollar DVD Kiosks in 105 Denver stores...

McDonald's Corp. said Monday it will rent out DVDs at 105 of its Denver stores, in a wider test of offering patrons movies with their burgers and fries.

McDonald's already offers automated digital video disk rentals at kiosks in 34 Denver stores. The remaining kiosks will be installed by the end of June, spokeswoman Lisa Howard said.

"We're looking for solutions for people living very busy lives who are looking for convenience, value and a relevant offering," Howard said.

The Redbox machines will be in operation 24 hours a day. New DVD releases will be added every Tuesday. The charge for a DVD is $ 1 a day plus tax, with a credit card used for payment. The kiosks, made by Los Gatos, Calif.-based DVDPlay Inc., hold as many as 350 copies of the top 25 or 30 movie titles.

I rented two movies from Redbox kiosk at a supermarket at Boston aka Northeast U.S.
The movie selections are as up to date as any local movie rental.
The price is great, and no waiting for the clerk to pop her bubble gum.

Note : I did not want to continue the original post that gone south.

I rent these when in Texas. Works great because their hours go late. Also works great for road travel. You can return to a different city. For new releases, they stock the machine so you can get one midnight release day.

I noticed them starting to appear around the Baltimore area some time ago.

Haven't tried it yet, but I was put off by one McDonalds location that chose to install the vending machine outside AND taking away a handicapped parking spot no less.

Ideally, I don't know which is worse - trying to take more money from the consumer at McD's - or keeping the handicap away.
Whatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.)

  6. There are plenty of promo codes available if you want to try out Redbox:

Using a promo code gets you a free rental as long as you return the DVD by 7PM the following day. I presume they are counting on many users to keep the DVD out for an extra day or two at 1$ per day.

We've been renting from RedBox here in Missouri for several months now, and let me tell you, it's the way to go. The advantages are obvious. Some disadvantages are that you could rent a damaged disc, to where you need to contact RedBox via phone for replacement instructions. Also, they don't release EVERY new release. I find I still need to stop by Blockbuster for some new releases, but it's an outstanding service that I hope they expand on with a wider selection. I'd also love to see them do it with video games as well.

  8. Redbox is moving into super markets in Boston and Vegas. Redbox is owned by McDonald. But look like they figured out Fast food grease does not mixed with DVD disc.

Scratch discs are problems, and they are typical on Children DVDs.
