  1. I'm not sure if this post belongs here, but I'll give it a try since it has to do with Sony Vegas software.
Whenever I install Sony Vegas it installs a separate software package called: "Media Manager". Media Manager seems to be linked to SQL Server. Media Manager fails to install due to "SQL Server and/or MSDE not installed or System without enough privileges" (I'm running my PC as Administrator). Nevertheless Sony Vegas installs and I can run it (after a Media Manager fail sign).
How can I fix this? Should I install SQL Server? How? And is Media Manager really needed for the proper functioning of Vegas? Thanks.

Start up Vegas and go to Options -> Preferences. Scroll down the first tab until you see Enable Media Manager and untick it. Restart Vegas and the message will be gone. I have not found a need for Media Manager for the projects I do, so I don't install it and have no issues.

  3. Thanks a lot guns, I did what you said and it works. Yet, I would like to know what Media Manager is for?? Also, you said that you didn't install Media Manager, I wonder how you did that because whenever I install Sony Vegas it does not give you the option to not install it, it just installs Media Manager automatically.

You could always uninstall media manager later, leaving just Vegas

When media manger starts to install, click cancel. The installation rools back and leaves you with just Vegas. No runtime SQL server, no database. Look up your manual for details on what Media Manager might do for you.

I did try to do that by going to Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs but there's no listing for "Sony Media Manager" or Media Manager. It seems to be part of Vegas itself.

It isn't. You have alread said it didn't install in your first post. Media Manager is a seperate application which uses a SQL server runtime database. For whatever reason, on your system these won't install. Un-tick the box to stop Vegas looking for it, or contact Sony support to get assistence with why it fails to install for you.

I have both Net 1.1 and 2.0 installed, yet Media Manager does not install. As said before, the conflict reported during install mentions SQL Server trouble.

that error report is generic for any non install - so it is hard to pin down sometimes the exact reason

  11. Is SQL a WinXP component? If so, how can I repair it?

I have Vegas 6 installed. Vegas installed MSDE (SQL Server) for Media Manager. Here is how it is listed in my ADD\Remove SW:

  13. Thanks, maybe I'll try installing Vegas 6 and have it install SQL+Media Manager before upgrading to Vegas 7.

  15. Yes, Vegas 7 also upgrades the Media Manager to v2.2, but version 6 might be able to install the SQL desktop server, as it did when I had v6 installed.
