  1. Creating a VCD using Smart Ripper, DVD2AVI, TMPGenc., and Nero. The overall picture quality(MPEG1) is good, however, on close ups and fast moving scenes there is what I call a little "pixelization". There appears a black "block" for a split second in the picture, sometimes more than one, but only on close ups(or objects close to the camera) or "Action Scenes" where there is alot of movement! Any Ideas???

  2. Yeah in TMPGEnc use High Quality (Slow) in the quality setting.

  3. Hi,

I also check Settings/Quantize Matrix/Soften Block Noise and select 35, some say your picture is very slightly blurrier, I don't agree, but the pixelization does seems to deminish.

I also use CBR 1250 for my VCD's even though they are then classed as XVCD because they differ from the standard, but my quality is GREAT and worthy of watching.

    Cheerz

  4. IMHO, TMPGEnc at VCD bitrates produces a video result with too much perceptible blocking even though it is sharper. Panasonic produces a softer video but with less perceptible blocking and to my eyes, this equals better quality.

If you are having difficult with VCDs with blocking, I would suggest that you try use the Panasonic MPEG Encoder (at standard bitrates of course).

If you are going to venture into the realm of XVCD, you might as well do it in a big way as you are going off-spec in any case.
