Hello. I have a Canon ZR 700 using two JVC tapes for recordings. I have been using Hauppuage USB TV PVR 250 to capture the video to my computer in .MPG form. I am a point and shoot videographer so I do not mess with my video camera's settings. I basically used both of my miniDV tapes to record 30 minute clips. Before my capturing worked fine. But for some reason, with one miniDV->MPG recording, it works fine when it is opened in windows media player. For the second miniDV->MPG recording however, I cannot fast forward or skip within the clip. I do the same exact thing in both conversions, but the second clip just will not let me skip to other parts of the video. I am wondering if I am missing a step or something. I have recopied that clip 2 more times and the same thing happens, I cannot fast forward. Thanks!

DV through PVR-250 is fast but not the best for quality.
If you are happy then fine. -
Yeah I was just looking for a quick fix to convert my DV tapes until I get more knowledgeable. I was thinking Adobe Premiere? Is that an ok solution?Originally Posted by edDV
I tried the WinDV method from the guide on this forum but I didn't know you could only create MPEG2 items for 30 days only with TMPEG. -
You can get TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 for less than $40. If you want a free encoder, QuEnc does a decent job too, and runs faster than TMPG.

It all depends how important this DV video is to you. DV can produce haigh quality if managed.Originally Posted by jwfc
