  1. My Ilo DVDR04 died suddenly -- so suddenly that I didn't have time to finalize three dvds I had recorded.

Is anyone still using their Ilo, and would they be willing to finalize my disks for me? I'd mail them to you, and I'll provide a return mailer and all. I can provide a separate email address for response.

    Thank you.

(My Ilo problem: I see "HELLO" and can't open the tray or use any buttons on the recorder or remote except for power on/off. According to an Ilo repair website, my problem is fatal).

Oddly enough sometimes the easiest fix for this is to unplug the device. Wait 5 minutes. Plug the device back in. I say sometimes because this doesn't always fix this issue but it has worked in the past on Ilo and other stand alones.

This seems to work for alot of equipment. Seemingly dead external modems suddenly spring back to life after being unplugged for a while and replugged back in. DVR equipment that locks up. All kinds of modern equipment can be fixed like this. I am not saying it will work 100% of the time but it does work sometimes and is probably the easiest and most overlooked fix.

  5. ROF -- an update: I left the R04 unplugged for an hour, replugged it, and alas, no luck. The machine is dead, I'm afraid.

I appreciate your suggestion, however, and I'll file it for in the future.

    Thanks agaim.

I'm back to seeing if anyone else can help me out finalizing my disks....

AH! well it was worth a shot. At least it didn't cost you any money to try.

Walmart has this recorder for under $100. You could always buy it. Finalize your discs and then return it telling them you do not like the features or someone bought you one already. Another cheap alternative.

  10. Thanks ROF and MJA.

I bought the R04 nearly two years ago and didn't get a warranty, so I'm out of luck on a refund.

As for finalizing my disks on another machine, I'm not aware I can do that. I'll try the $100 machine from Walmart (here a Magnavox MWR10D6). If does the job, great, I'll just keep it.

If not I'll look at the Polaroid MJA recommends.

Again, thanks to both of you. I'll report back.

  12. Thanks MJA.

I think I may have the receipt. I tend to keep original boxes and generally tape the receipt inside the box. I'll check when I get home.

I bought their DVDR05 and exchanged it about a dozen times because it wouldn't hold up to the heavy use it was getting and burned up/conked-out about every 30-60 days. I noticed that a lot of the units I was returning were being placed right back out on the sales floor, boxes freshly taped back shut. I wonder how many got re-sold?
