So I created a dvd using dvdauthorgui (added the soft subs using that software). When I played the dvd to the dvd player and turned on the subtitle, there is this certain scene where the timing appears along with the subtitle. It looks like this

Even before I converted it and burned it to dvd-video, I already watched it in my computer in .avi format (with the subs in .srt format), and I didn't encounter this problem. I also looked up at the .srt file and I didn't see anything wrong with it. Could the problem be with dvdauthorgui? Is there a solution for this?

I would think that the *.srt-file is corrupt, try opening it in Subtitle Workshop and see if you get any error message there.

I'm not sure if it's the .srt file or dvdauthorgui that has a problem. Anyway, I have already solved the problem. I'll tell you what I did so that you may determine which one has the error. This is what I did: I authored a new dvd using the original .srt file. This is what the it looks like

Then when the dvd-video files were already created, I used Subrip to rip the subtitles from the dvd-video files. Here is the output

Notice that there is a difference in the timing between the original .srt and the ripped .srt file (there is also 2 line three in the ripped .srt, so I just edited the line number of that line and the following lines). So I authored another dvd using the edited .srt and the subs of the new dvd finally worked without the timing appearing on screen. With that being said, I think dvdauthorgui might have contributed in the problem by making some changes in the original .srt file during the authoring. That's just my opinion. Will be waiting for your view on this one.

Difficult to say if something just happened during the authoring process or if there is something wrong with the file. Why don't you post the .srt? I'll take a look at it.

    Here it is: http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=A940A64B138ABF8A

I'd really wanna know which one has the problem and where could have the error occured to avoid such problems in the future.

I checked the file and there is nothing wrong with it that should cause this fault. (The timings could definitley improve, but that's something else. Some lines are too short, some too long and you have a number of overlaps but that has nothing to do with this issue).
On the other hand there is no reason to suspect DVDauthorGUI either. Something went wrong during the authoring process, that's all. Were you working on the computer while it was processing the file?

  7. Hi-

DVDAuthorGUI also accepts subs in SSA format. You could convert the SRT to SSA (I use Sub Resynch, which comes with the VobSub package) and then try again and see if the results are any better. I've never had any problems using SSAs in DVDAuthorGUI.

I see. Well, yeah.....I was kinda browsing the net when the authoring started, but I stopped after a few minutes when I noticed that my computer is getting slow during the authoring.

Thanks for the tip. I will be making a dvd tomorrow. I will use .ssa if I encounter that problem again with .srt in dvdauthorgui.

Also, you can take full advantage of anti-aliased subtitles by using subtitlecreator to create an .sup.
