    hello,

    I have a FreeCom 80GB USB2 Classic Hard-drive that just died and will not boot on my
    Siemens laptop or my other acer 1, am i able to repair this drive somehow and back
    the data up or is this HDD dead for good?

    nwo- there is likely a standard HD inside that USB enclosure. If you have access to a desktop, open the USB drive housing and then you can plug the HD in and see if its the drive or the USB circuit (they do fail a lot).

    Agreed. In pre-assembled external Hard drives the first thing to go is usually the USB connector because of either a spike when plugged in or rough plugging. Try the advice of opening the drive case and using an IDE connector inside your computer to access the drive. Remember IDE does not support hot plugging so shut down your machine before plugging the drive in this manner.
