  1. After downloading the FLV files from videos on youtube, I played them in VLC Player, FLV-Player S, and one or two other dedicated flash video players. The FLV video played fine in all of these programs, but I couldn't fast-forward or rewind. Any idea what's happening?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Apparently the metadata in the files is incomplete. You can fix it with FLV MetaData Injector from http://www.buraks.com/flvmdi/ (free).

Is it currently possible to download a standalone codec for the playing of FLV files in my preferred software player (Media Player Classic)? I've only just figured out to download the youtube & google video files but can't play them in MPC like I can with QT & Real Media files via the alternative codecs. Can anyone help please?

MPC has a decoder built in for VP62*. For Sorenson Spark flv's you would need to install ffdshow. That should be about it since MPC also has a built in flv splitter and mp3 decoder. You would only need a codec if you also want to encode.

*requires a recent svn build with vp62 enabled.
