I'm using CCE SP Trial Version for encoding and TMPGEnc Author 1.6 Trial
When I try to author it I get an error message (The combine bitrate of the clip exceeds the upper limit for a standard DVD. Current bitrate is video 9800kbps and audio 224kbps combined 10024kpbs.
This happens when I set CCE to MPEG 2 -DVD, Multipass VBR with Max at 8500, Min at 2000, and avg at 6000. Audio is set at 224.
Any ideas why this is happening?

TMPGEnc does not calculate the max bitrate correctly. They want people to use a "safe" bitrate. Just ignore the error and continue. The real maximum bitrate supported by the DVD standard is 9800k max for video only, and 10080k total with video/audio combined. As long as you don't go over that, you should be okay. All DVD players are required to sustain this bitrate. If my DVD player wouldn't play this bitrate, I would take it back to the store and get a different one.

Because you have the "For DVD" box checked, it's reading the 9800 in the header, even though you're well inder the limit. As Wile_E says, go ahead and author and ignore the warning. And if you don't need that box checked (if you're already feeding a DVD compliant AviSynth script into CCE, for example), then uncheck the box in the future.

Trying out my new DVR the other day I put a few clips I had onto a DVD. I had one clip that I recorded with my ATI card at CBR 15Mbps. It played and looked good. I was surprised. The clip was only about 5 minutes long though. Things may of changed with a longer clip I guess, but that one played.....

Yeah, but there's a difference between being able to play it, and being able to author it for DVD. You actually authored it with IFOs and BUPs and VOBS, or you burned an MPEG to DVDR as a data disc? And if it is a true DVD, then even though you set it for 15000 Mbps, it must not be using anywhere near that much.
