hello all i have a movie with .mp4 extension, ive spent day's trialing programs that will convert it
to somthing more playable, Dr Divx does a great job of conversion but there's no audio, its like i need a codec or another program to do the job, how can i tell what what codec is needed or is there a better program to use.

    Thanks

You can use Virtualdub to convert it to an uncompressed AVI (you can use the HUffyUV codec to save space), and also you can use it to extract the audio to an uncompressed PCM WAV file, then convert those to whatever you need...
