  1. hello,
I burned my first DL disc last night. my burner is the pioneer DVR-109 (fw 1.58 ). I used ONES 2.0.33 and the media was verbatim +R DL, burned at 2.4x. also just to note, i've burned tons of single layers with this drive (with ONES and RecordNow Max). my dvd player is the Philips DVP642 - and this player plays everything, got it because i watch almost all burns.
about a third of the way thru the show it started "sputtering" like the DVD player was having a hard time reading the disc, or keeping up with it, or something. the longer it went on the more it stuttered. but then it returned to normal playback for the last 3rd.

I'm not positive what i should try first to resolve this. i can try using a different media (have some Ritek DL discs) or a different burning app (just downloaded imgburn) or if it is my burner that is causing the issue or my player can't handle dual layer burns (which i'd assume they could)

any thoughts or points in the right direction would be truly appreciated
if this post is better served in a different forum thread, please let me know and i'll post there.
    thanks!

The only DVD player I've found that will reliably play DVD+R DL discs is the pioneer DV-270 (aka DV-275).

  3. I have had 3 good burns with verbatim and imgburn. It burned correctly and I 1st tested on my PC and it played back without issue.

It played fine of my pioneer DVD player. And that's where it stopped. I could not play it back on my phillips in the bedroom, the car dvd player or my in-laws. Still plays fine on the pioneer. Might try the X-BOX360 just for fun.

That's the 2nd issue with DL disk. They seem to me that they are hit and miss on playback accross different machines. The 1st one is cost.
For the love of God, use hub/core labels on your Recordable Discs!

  4. i'll try it in the regular xbox (don't have 360) and also look around to see if pioneer DV-270 are availble cheaply. surprised at the philips, that thing plays anything! but this isthe first DL i've thrown in it.
did try imgburn 2.0 last night, but got errors in writing. looked in their forums and they said to another guy that 2.0 was giving errors on DL burns and v2.0.1 should fix it. hopefully that will be out soon.
glad it doesn't appear to be my burner, but still not ruling that out...

I've tried them in multiple DVD players, either they won't play, play with occasional macroblocks, choke at the layer break or screw up on the 2nd layer.

Like I said, I've had good luck with Pioneer DVD Players. Although my Pioneer DV-225 (aka 220) won't even recognize DVD+R DL's.
