  1. Ok... after scratching my head reading the several topics which cover booktype's of various dvd media's... Can I be definitive that for most compatitable playback I should use:

    DVD+R==DVD-ROM
    DVD-R==DVD-ROM (or can't change)
    DL-DVD+R==DVD-ROM
    DL-DVD-R==DVD-ROM

    Is there an instance where i'd want to use the "DVD-R" bitsetting? Is it true what I typed above regarding dual-layer media?

    Thanks! Sorry for continuing the cycle with this topic, but it seems that with DL media out now and having a choice between DVD-R or DVD-ROM as the booktype, I have begun to become confused again.

    Cheers to those who respond!

  2. You can't change DVD-R booktype. The lead-in on the disc containing this information is pre-written. DVD+R and DVD+R DL can be set to DVD-ROM for best compatibility with older players. I use modified firmware in my NEC 2510a, and it automatically sets the booktype to DVD-ROM for any +R or +R DL media.

  3. So basically, regardless of media (including dual layer) the dvd-rom booktype is the way to go as long as you have the option to change it. DVD-R is unique because it already contains the dvd-rom bitsetting. This is actually what confused me... I was thinking that DVD Video on a DVD-R was automatically set to DVD-R bitsetting (not dvd-rom as you stated).

    As long as I'm straight on the facts, then let this thread go.

    That's not what he stated. DVD-R is permanently set to booktype DVD-R. Thet's what meant by

    The automatic setting he referred to was for +R, not -R:
