  1. Hello,

I'm trying to view a DVD using PowerDVD; however, my monitor (HP) is not showing the movie clearly. What I mean is the picture is very dark. I tried adjusting the brightness via the PowerDVD Options, but to no avail. Is there something I need to adjust on the monitor? I adjusted the brightness on the monitor as well.

    Thanks

Control Panel->Display->Settings->Advanced and search for overlay brightness settings.

What type of video card you own?

Did you install the latest video card drivers?

    P.S.
Never link to Word Documents, create a gif file or jpg instead.

No, I'm on my work pc. Don't want to alter anything.

Gothcha on the 'link', but why not, viruses or it makes it possible for someone to gain access remotely to your pc?

Either could happen in theory, but mostly not everyone has software to open .doc files on their computers.

Macro viruses are the main concern, also the ability to pinpoint computers remotely by inserting bug crawling code into the .doc format.

Just take a picture of your Desktop/Properties/Settings tab and save it as a .png file, that way you can upload it for us to see what video card model you have.

If the movie you are trying to watch is just burned into a DVD+R media, maybe the transfer was of very bad quality, till you confirm I am only guessing here.

Locally on a PC it is all about your overlay settings in your graphics chip display properties. There is no standardization, it all depends on how Intel, ATI, NVidea et. al. define their overlay defaults*. If you don't like the default using multiple players, then you create a custom overlay setting.

For a particular player, you often have settings targeted at playing a particular file or you can apply those settings to everything played.

Anybody pretending to a calibrated system for editing or authoring will avoid using overlay for monitoring.

*It also depends on your local monitor brightness and contrast settings (monitor EPROM profile) plus the native contrast and pixel display colorimetry of your display CRT or panel.
