  1. I can get a stick of 512meg of 400mhz dual channel pretty cheap but want to know if its worth it or not.

Just curious to know how much of a performance increase I would get if I went from 512mg of 333mhz to 512meg of 400mhz dual channel ram.

I guess the real bonus is that my other computer has 512 of 333mhz so if I do upgrade then the other pc gets 1gb of memory. So "everyone" (ie. both computers) wins.

So, how much increase will I see on PC 1 going from 333mhz to 400mhz dual channel?
How much increase will I see on PC 2 going from 512 to 1gb?

Ive got a good idea it will probably only be in multitasking areas but just want to make sure.

Depends on the PC themselves. Can they support dual channel? Did you insert the RAM in pairs for dual channel support? Can the PC support 400mhz RAM?

  3. With that motherboard you will not get any noticable increase in speed by using 400 MHz DRAM vs. 333 MHz DRAM.

Adding an additional 512 MB DRAM will make some improvements in responsiveness (as OS components are less likely to get swapped out by the disk cache). If your multitasking is resulting in a lot of virtual memory thrashing you will get better performance.

Which motherboard? I thought there were two computers involved in that post and I didn't see any description of the PCs?

  5. Ok. Sorry about that. I have now upgraded my computer profiles.

The K7 is the MB which now has the dual channel ram.

And I just realized I said it was a stick of 512 dual channel .. my apologies. It is actually (2) 256 mb sticks of 400 mhz.

  6. When I first looked at Lucifers_Ghost's computer details this morning only one motherboard was listed, MSI KT4V.
