after a few reboots, think i fixed it

i decided to open vegas, and then close it and reboot and seems to work fine now, vegas must have screwed something up and re-opening and re-closing fixed it.

I think the machine is overheating, or overheated, anybody know any info on what can happen?

  5. If it's just at bootup, but does not effect Windows once fully booted, it's something to do with an ATI Radeon TV card, as mine does the same thing. Turning the power off does not seem to display the same thing.

    hi,
A coupleof things i would look at....
    1. make sure your video cable and replug and plug in well... lose or dirty conntects can cause all sort of issues with colors and maybe lines....

    2. another issue possibly is the monitor what type of monitor? a lcd or crt? lcd monitors many times when there color bar/strips either horizontal or vertical maybe a indication of the monitor going bad.... try using them onitor on a different computer.....

    3. could it be a graphic card?... yes it can be... but i would look at the other things first....

as far as heat issues... well is the case cool to the touch... if so then generally heating isssue are a remote possiblity.. unless a component is seriously going bad by itself...!

    hi
make sure the fan is running on the video card and is no clogged with dust as these were the symptoms of my old card before it bit the dust.

Yeah fan works on the card, i definetly think it's the video card

Now guys, do u think it was caused by being overheated or it's just that the cards die? ATI card, i'm probably going to just order the same one this week and see if it works

wait before you do that.. check the monitor.. if you can try a different monitor even a cheap old one.. when monitors go out they are what causes teh colors and lines first.. when cards g oout they moslty just stop working. but it is possible to get weird colors.. ill put my money on the monitor.. and they dirt cheep these days. try that first.

Also as someone else already mentioned ... did you try to "reseat" the video card?

I mean totally pull it out of the slot (be it PCI or AGP or PCIe) and then push it back in ... also make sure the connector from the video card to the monitor is secure etc.
