Some of my video files open with high dimensions. Dimensions that are too big for the quality. Is there any hidden file property menu where I can adjust the values? Thanks.

640 x 480, stuff like that. I would like them to open in Media player classic to VCD size like 352 x 240

    You object to 640 X 480 playing at 640 X 480?
As you haven't bothered to actually tell us what you're watching it with it's a bit hard to help.
Look into your (whatever it is) media player and see if there's an option to open at 1/2 size, or see if there's a set size you can set it to.

Before being rude you should have read the response I made before yours more fully. I did tell you what player I was watching it with.

Anyway im not looking to just have my media player open the files at a fixed dimension, I'm trying to find a way to edit the video files properties so its default dimension is smaller.

Anyway this probably can't be done so I might as well discontinue this thread. Thanks for the help everyone.

  7. You stated what player you WOULD LIKE TO USE.

You did not state what player you HAVE BEEN USING.

These are two different things. Does not seem like much until you have spent significant time and effort troubleshooting a problem and then the guy mentions casually that he wonders if his house being struck by lightning might be a factor? Or half a dozen more similar incidents I could recount. Like the one who disconnected his audio cables and physically removed his sound card and was still getting out-of-synch audio on his captures. Or the many, many times I ask at least three times "What new software has been installed?" and finally get the response "well does a downloaded screensaver count?" To learn to fix PC problems is to dedicate yourself to ASSUME NOTHING.

Now you seem to be indicating that you have a 640x480 file that looks like crap. Playing it at half size, or anything less than full, might offer some improvement. Re-encoding, which is necessary to resize, will not help but resizing might mask some of the crap.

Far simpler to simply resize the playback window. Or get better quality material.

Not a problem. Everything seems to think I have a huge problem on my hands. I have media player classic(it doesnt matter which media player they all do the same thing), you can take ur mouse and adjust the dimensions on the player to a different size by clicking the corners of your media player and dragging. This creates an illusion that a video isnt as crappy quality and it seems, since its been squeezed to a smaller dimension. I was just casually wondering if you can change the properties of the video file so it opens at different dimensions by default. In explorer, a video file always has the dimensions listed that it opens at(if u have ur menu at the "details setting"), so I thought it would be reasonable for there to be a way to edit that.

Again, everyone is taking this is chinese algebra. Its not much of a big deal to me. I was expecting this to be a yes or no thing. Ofcourse if I really cared, I could just open it in an editor and make a noncompressed output file at a smaller dimension. But I was just curious and thought there'd be a much easier way, a way as easy as changing the files name. A way that would be worth doing.

  9. With MPC you can use Alt+1 to reduce the frame to 50%. If two key presses is too much for you, you can change the key stroke settings via View -> Options -> Player -> Keys and reduce it to a single key.

You can make MPC always start playing with a 50% window but I'm not aware of any hack that lets you flag specivic videos for playback at a reduced size automatically.
