hello all.....how would I go about checking to see if my pc's motherboard and the graphics card i am going to buy(dont know which one yet) is compatable? I used CPU-Z and it said "Graphic Interface" is AGP v2.0 but I don't know what that means...but what I would like to know is, is there a 256 mb(or better) card graphics card that will work with my 4x motherboard?

What are you planning on using it for? There are some good Matrox cards that come up on eBay from time to time that are fantastic for digital content creation, CAD, and 3D work. If you're looking to gaming video cards there are quite a few that work with 4x AGP.

  4. If the computer is so old it only has 4x AGP it isn't really up to heavy duty gaming. Save the money towards a new much faster computer. IMHO of course.

Just my two cents, but you have an ok CPU and you could find a decent ATI Radeon card with 256mb of memory for under $100. Check out Pricewatch.com. I wouldn't spend more than that because more than likely, your next computer won't have an AGP slot.

You might also consider the ATI All-In-Wonder TV/video cards. They are cheap enough ($50) on eBay, and come with very useful software.
If you ever record/burn TV shows & such, you'll know its time-consuming & hogs a computer.
Perfect use for your old machine when you upgrade to a better gaming machine.

A Geforce 6600 GT might do the trick (I doubt there's no real speed up bying a more expensive card)
