I was talking with the Apple rep at the local CompUSA, and he mentioned that the iMacs use "just a notebook dvd drive." This got me thinking, are there any recent vintage slot-loading optical drives out there, notebook or desktop form factor, that can be installed in your run of the mill Compaq laptop or Dell desktop?
I found this link in a thread in this forum (http://www.mcetech.com/pbg4dvdr8dl.html), but I couldn't find any info regarding installing the drive in a non-mac.
Anyone know of a slot loading drive for the pc world?
Thanks!
Gary

Desktops usually want 1.6" height drives, while laptops need the slim design. While most slot loading drives are slim design, there are exceptions. E.g. the Pioneer DVD-120S is slot loading and full height.
