  1. My LG 4160B with firmware A306 connected via ide (slave on secondary channel - master is an ahrd drive) is having problems burning RITEK05 media (Maxell 16x +R and Ridata 8x -R) media... It will only burn the media successfully at 4x which is no big deal but I was currious if anyone else is having this problem... I'm using Nero Express 6 with the latest patch from Ahead...

The media will burn to about 40-50% then not proceed past that point... The computer is not frozen but you cannot kill the process via Windows XP Sp2 task manager... Only way to stop the process is to reboot...

Burning media at 4x is fine... Other media burns fine at 8x, 12x and 16x (Sony, Comstar, Dataware, Fuji)... Any thoughts...??? Or anyone else have this problem...???

    Thanks

Or use better dvd media because ritek g05 isn't the best media to use.

  7. Budz...

Any place online that rates media other then here ? I've checked Lord Smurf's excellent site, but his media list seems a little out of date now...

So for quality media, TY or Verbatim ? Any other brand comes close to these two?

    Cheers

Completely agree with budz on media, and I've had zero problems with taiyo yuden or verbatim but have had numerous problems with Ritek G05 and now avoid G05. I've read where others had good results with TDK as have I, but I 'refer to stick with taiyo yuden or verbatim. NewEgg very often has very good media prices, and I've seen Verbatim there for under $25 per 100.

There isn't any other website other than smurf's website that I know of that rates dvd media. TY and VERBATIM is the best quality dvd media that you can use. Long ago I used TDK but I stopped using it over a year ago because the quality of their discs weren't that good with the dvd burners that I had at the time. Some of the discs weren't readable after a short period of time. This was a issue that others had as well.

If you want good quality dvd media buy TY or VERBATIM. IMHO why buy cheap media when the prices of good quality dvd media can be bought for reasonable prices. I buy lots of VERBATIM & SONY (made in japan TY) when it goes on sale at BEST BUY. It's difficult now to find SONY TY media so if you really want TY then ordering from www.rima.com would be the option.

  10. I agree with budz on the TY's and Verbatim's. I don't know about Canada, but here in my part of the US - retail availability of Sony branded TY has all but disappeared. If faced with going to a retail store (Bestbuy-Office Depot-Office Max-Staples-etc) it's much easier to just buy Verbatim. In North America you only see MCC of CMC or Prodisc flavors which both generally work very well. Verbatim is a very safe choice in this part of the world anyways. Good luck.
