I want to capture video that is on a VHS tape, edit the captured video (titles, transitions, etc.), and then output the edited video back to VHS. I have the WinTV PVR capture card and an SVHS VCR. I would like to capture the video at the best quality I can and output back to the SVHS VCR the same way. What settings should I capture in to get the best quality? When I try to capture at 720x480, the capture program locks up. I have tried using the WinTV2000 software that comes with the WinTV PVR and VirtualDub to capture. Both lock up at 720x480. Using 352x480 does OK in the capture mode.

I can handle the editing just fine, but I need to get the edited video back to VHS. I have a Sony TRV130 Digital8 camcorder that has the DV link and I have a FireWire card in my PC. The camcorder does NOT have analog inputs so the pass-thru function is not an option.

Should I invest in another capture card (ATI All-in-Wonder) that has the video outputs? Should I invest in a digital camcorder with analog inputs so I could use the pass-thru function? Could I capture with what I have now, output to the camcorder via the DV link, and then take that video and dump to the VCR?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    My setup:

700Mhz, 128 SDRAM, 10GB drive (7200 rpm for OS) and a 60GB drive (7200 rpm for video capture), NVIDEA GEForce video card.

    Thanks in advance....

Not my strongest area but to save spending further money on equipment does your Nvid card have a TV out on it like a RCA or S-Video connections, would not running one of these into your s/a video player and playing the movie on your computer and recording on your vid player do the trick?
Or are you after the highest quality possible(where the ATI all in one would be an advantage, or the like)
    ?

  4. No need to capture at 720x480 for a VHS source. VHS is only 352x240. So capturing at 352x480 is good enough. Capture as AVI (use PicVideo or other codes to save space).
Yes. You can output the video via firewire from your computer to your digital camcorder and record the video back to VHS.
