  1. I want a slideshow on CD rather than DVD medium.

I can authour the slideshow as DVD, but it's so small that I don't want to put it on a DVD disc, because of the waste of space.

As far as I can tell, VCD or SVCD are separate formats so I wouldn't be authouring my slideshow in one of those 'CD formats just to get it on a CD...?

Besides, the playback machine owned by the people for whom I'm making the slideshow plays only DVD.

Is there a way to put a small DVD slideshow on a CD?

(I couldn't find any information about this with "DVD on CD" keywords. If info already exists on this theme, please point me to it.)

    Thanks.

Yes, but it wont work on most standalone dvd players. www.videohelp.com/minidvd . You make the slideshow and then output to the harddrive and then just burn the VIDEO_TS folder to a CD.

    And I'm talking about a dvd-video slideshow.

Many VCD/DVD players will "play" a disk of JPEG files as a slideshow, which could be what you want. (No soundtrack though.) As you're targetting a specific machine, give it a try. If it's not local, ask for the model, look it up, with any luck you can find the manual at the manufacturer's site and see what it can do.
