The shareware Pocket DVD Studio (www.pqdvd.com) program lets you convert DVDs to divx/mp3 by using DVD player software like PowerDVD or WinDVD to decrypt css and decode mpeg-2, apparently capturing the output of the player's directshow filter and converting it. Assuming they don't crack any protections on the filters, this is a really elegant way of getting around the DMCA: my hat comes off to them. The product is aimed at producing video for portable devices, but can be used for other purposes as well.
Question: Are there any other products (free, shareware or commercial) that work in this way?
