I understand what you can do with TMPGEnc DVD Author.
But TMPGEnc 2.5 free splits a source into an m2v video file and wav
    sound file.
What are you supposed to do with these?
Will it combine them or do you need another program?

That's not really a freeware program, it's only free for MPEG-1 encoding. But you can set it to several different types of outputs. You can set it to 'ES' and get the combined audio and video. You can also set different limited audio output types.

You will need a authoring program if your final product is DVD. They mostly can use 'm2v video file and wav'. Though I would convert the audio WAV to AC3 with ffmpeggui to save quite a bit of space on a DVD. If your final product is VCD, which is what MPEG-1 is most often used for, you want to use MPEG-1 Layer2 audio.

    And welcome to our forums.

EDIT: You're right, teegee420, I was asleep at the time. What he was using was ES (Video+Audio)

Have the following selected and you will get a single ".mpg" file with both video and audio.

    Thanks for the help.
I do not need MPEG2 output.
I am only trying to reduce bitrate to play on a 500 MHz Compaq with not much video power.

I have this one video with Dolby 6.1 sound.
Tmpgenc 2.5 will not open it.
Tmpgenc DVD author opens it, but for some reason gives output that contains only the the first 61 seconds of a 154 second video.
Tmpgenc 2.5 will now open it, but it is not complete.

Is there anything that will give me 1000 Mbit/sec or less video from MPEG2 with Dolby 6.1?
(audio input that is, don't care about audio out format)

The Compaq is using VLC media player, and will not decode MPEG4 fast enough to display. At best I get one frame every ten seconds.

I have used DVD shrink twice in a row on same video and could play the VOB on the Compaq. But I first have to make a DVD file structure.
