I was just wondering if anyone had encountered a factory pressed DVD that will not fit on a dual layer DVDR without compression?

Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers comes to mind as a possibility. I don't remember the exact size DVD size, but the movie is 179 minutes or about 2.9 hours. It's one of the bigger ones if you wanted to backup the entire disc with no compression. Most any movie that runs close to 3 hours would also likely be a problem.

If you are talking about a single commercial DVD9 going to a DL blank, then no. You should be able to do a 1:1 ISO copy. The single disc edition of LOTR, or even The Godfather (both close to three hours) will fit on a single DL disc.
Do you believe you have one ? or just speculating ?Read my blog here.

I was actually just speculating. I know that some discs are touted as containing extensive extra material. I was just wondering if anyone had come across any factory pressed disc that would not fit on a dual layer blank without using compression.

This is an interesting question...I know some audio cd's back in the day wouldn't fit on cd-r using "normal" methods because they were longer than 80 minutes.
