Divx player that handles Resolutions well.

I am looking for a Divx player that will handle the many resolutions that divx brings. The one I have now plays about half of my movies stretched.

Have you tried checking the widescreen mode on your dvd player? You may need to have it turned on or off to play it properly.

I use a portable divx player and when it is in composite mode I cant change wide screen options. I have though a HDTV that can change wide modes and I have tried them all.

Please if someone has a Divx player that handles all the resolutions properly let me know.

I have a settop LG 9723P which has been able handle everything up to and including 720 wide. However it isn't portable. My only issue with how it handles AR is that it doesn't switch between 4:3 and 16:9 automatically as it does with DVDs, so if it is set to 16:9, it will pillarbox 4:3 material. This is OK if you have a wdiescreen TV. I have a 4:3 that has 16:9 switching for widescreen material, so I have to manually switch the player to :3 for 4:3 avis. Not a big issue, just a minor annoyance.

There is a good chance that there is a US equivelent. You might have to email or call LG to find out what it is. That said, I only have this because it was given to me as part of a loyalty program. If I was to spend money on one, I would buy Pioneer.

I don't mean to sound disappointed but there are alot of peolpe using Xvid players on this site. So please if you found a divx/xvid player that hanldes resolitions well please share the experience.

Which make and model do you have?

Have a look at Modix HD-3520. It’s a portable player that accepts 3.5” hard drive. It plays divx and xvid files. I can zoom and have option to change the aspect ratio many different ways.

So far, I have played HD divx resolution up to 720p but I think it can go up to 1080p. It plays WMV9 up to 1080p resolution nicely. Also, high def .ts mpeg2 files and DVD ISO and IFO.

If you need to play CD or DVD disk, attach an external USB CD/DVD player to it.

Most DVD/MPEG-4 players play AVIs with the correct AR. It's mostly players with the ESS chipset that give problems on widescreen TVs. My Oppo (MTK chipset) plays every resolution fine. It probably costs more than you'd like to pay, though. But if you paid the big bucks for your HDTV, you might as well get a decent DVD/MPEG-4 player to go along with it.

you are right I only run into errors on a widescreen.

Hmm. how much is spendy to you?? after spending a few K on my HDTV I can justify maybe a couple few hundred on a proper play.

It has a DVI out. A newer model with HDMI out will be coming out this fall, I believe. It comes with both DVI2DVI and DVI2HDMI cables. If you watch anime or TV series DVDs (i. e., often interlaced encoded), or video sourced DVDs (lots of concerts, sporting events, many docus, porn, regular DVD extra features, etc.) the Farouja chipset it has is worth its weight in gold. If you watch mostly progressively encoded movies and AVI, then just about any DVD/MPEG-4 player will do (except those with ESS chipsets). Buy it only if you intend to use the digital connection. The Faroudja chipset isn't used over component.

For $50 less is the newer DV-970HD with an HDMI out. No Faroudja processing, but the same Mediatek chipset, meaning that your AVIs will play just fine. It also has some other nice features which may or may not interest you. No free shipping through Amazon either:

well i found a way around the resolution problem, I just set the dvd player to 4:3 and set my 60" widescreen to 4:3 and bang it looks alright. There is a sacrifice though the screen isnt 60" anymore more like 45"..................
