I want to capture in 704*480 or at last 640*480 in 29.97 fps and cd quality sound but i have about 75% of dropped frames, i've tried everything, compresssions, no compressions, drivers, codecs, drives, dma on/off. The card can do this capture size but it's ain't working, i'm capturing with virtualdub BUT i've tried other program which give the sames results. My cpu is an Amd Thunderbird 1.4, 512 ddr memory, asus 8200 geforce 3 deluxe64 mo using composite tv-in and running win2000. I've tried on 2 maxtor drive on ata 100, an diamond maxplus 5T060H6 and a new diamond maxplus d740x (running on ata 100 though).
    Any idea??

I can capture 640x480 with very few frame drops on an AMD700 Duron so you should be able to capture these resolutions with ease.

You've obviously got a bottleneck somewhere and since changing most of your software settings hasn't changed a thing then unfortunately this could be a hardware issue.

I suspect it may be your tv-in on the Geforce card. I'm using a cheap PCTV Rave BT878 chipset capture card and this appears to be the only real difference between our systems (other than speed!)

I would be tempted to run out and buy a $40 (~£35) capture card as this could well work out cheaper than the amount of time it will take to diagnose and fix the current problem.

  4. I was having the same problem. I tried using the Huffyuv codec and rarely ever drop a frame now. I drop like crazy without it though. It's worth a shot, if you haven't tried it already.

I haven't tried it before because I can compress with it in virtualdub but can't capture with it, i've tried it though in asus live but I got dropped frames too.
