I use Dvdshrink in reauthor mode. Just drag the title in question over to the new compilation window, right click on it, and select trim from the pop-up menu. I believe that it will allow you to get down to the nearest I-Frame. This method will result in VOB files so you may want to use some other tool to convert it to a more user friendly format (I use and can recommend VideoReDo). Good Luck!

    Hello,
Womble Multimedia's MPEG-VCR is an excellent no-frills utility for doing just what you're talking about, I use it all the time to cut out individual songs from concert movies. It accepts VOB files and smart-renders the edits so there is no quality loss from your source, It's bigger more expensive companion program MPEG Video Wizard does all the same things and more with great filters and transitions etc. the latest version also supports DVD Authoring so you can do it all with one program. These are not the cheapest programs to buy but they produce equivalent results to Adobe Premiere and Womble is very generous with updates !www.womble.com

  4. Hi, I used the Dvdshrink to cut the clip to C drive. I got couple of files

    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VTS_01_0.BUP
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_01_1.VOB

I can play the VOB file in WinDVD. The problem now is I can not import it in nerovision express and therefore can not burn. Can any one tell me how I can import the VOB file in nerovision express and burn the dvd? Thanks

Why would you want to import them into NeroVision ? They are already compliant DVD files, so you can just burn them using the DVD Video template in the burning rom part of Nero. NeroVision Express is so stupid it will probably try to re-encode them anyway.

An even better approach would be to either install DVD decrypter as the burn engine for DVD Shrink, or enable Nero as the burn engine, and have Shrink write the disc for you as part of the processing.

  6. Hello, I did not get every thing you said. The reason for using nero vision express because I am familiar with it. I found easy to use. Now the problem is I need to cut clips from 10 DVDs and burn.

When I cut clip from one DVD it produced many different files. Do I need to burn only VOB file or do I need to worry about other files. It is bit confusing. I thought I cut all clips and save to C drive first and the use nerovision express and burn it on dvd. Thanks

If you used DVD Shrink in re-author mode to cut a section out of a DVD using the Start/End function, you get a new, very small DVD being created (ifo, bup and VOB files). You will get one of these for each clip you create.

What you can then do, once you have cut all your pieces up, is open Shrink again, import the first clip as a DVD, and drag the only title in it across to the lefthand pane. Now open the next clip, and drag the title across to the left. Repeat this until you have opened all the clips and have all the titles in the lefthand pane.

Now, when you hit Backup, you will get a new disc, with all the clips in it. If you select the Burn with Nero option, you can just put in a blank disc, and Shrink will compile your new DVD and burn it for you.

Nerovision Express will just re-encode your files very slowly and poorly.

It is a problem with the latest Nero and Shrink. You have a couple of choices

    1. Install DVD Decrypter and use this to burn from Shrink instead of Nero

    2. Uninstall Nero 7 using the clean tools provided at the Nero site, and install an early version of Nero 6

    3. Backup from Shrink to a HDD folder, then burn using the DVD Video template in Nero (NOT NEROVISION !!!)

    4. Install imgburn (essentially an updated burning only version of DVD Decrypter), then backup from Shrink to an ISO file and burn with imgburn

  11. Thanks guys for all your help. Did search on google and some one mentioned to disable the nero call from DVD Shrink. I unchecked it DVD Shrink, manually run the nero-rom, add the files and burn. Works.

Thanks again for your all your help. It save me lot of time since I do not need to re-encode the files becuase nero vision express always encode regardless if the file already in dvd format. This method was quick and easy.
