  1. I've got some .avis I'd like to get onto my iPod, just with some VOB Subtitles burned into them. Doing some research on the forums, I've seen it mentioned that I need to use the preset DVD mpeg2enc to get them burned in. I'm having a lot of trouble getting this to work.

Though I have them selected under filters: (VOB Subtitles checked, 0, Burn) and the .idx selected with the Load subs option, the resulting .DVD didn't have any titles. They were there when I previewed it, though. Also, I'm not even sure what to do with the files I get. I have a .DVD folder with VIDEO_TS files, I've got a .mpg, .mpa, and .mpv also. An additional problem is that though I specified the same output size of pixels, encoding to the DVD gave me black stripes at the top and bottom, thus shrinking the video vertically.

Any ideas what I did wrong and what I can do to fix it?

The subtitles ffmpegX expects to see are ".srt" files. Many times you may find them here:

    http://divxsubtitles.net/

There are also tools for extracting the subtitles to .srt format but, frankly, I've found them pretty miserable.

Others will no doubt voice other opinions.

  3. What about all of those other posts I found (like this and this)? I looked on that database but couldn't find .srts for the video I have. I just wish there was subrip or some other OCR type program so I could easily convert it myself.

Did you set Decode with mplayer in the Options tab?
Because the burning of idx/sub subtitles with mpeg2enc works for me.

Use the .mpg file as source file to convert again with the iPod preset.
