ripping only certain chapters of a dvd to avi...is it possible?

i want to rip only certain chapters with no quality loss. is this possible, or will i have to rip the whole dvd and use a video-editing program to cut out the parts i don't want?

If it doesn't have ArCoSS prtection, you could rip just the chapters you want with DVD Shrink in re-author mode, or DVD Decrypter in IFO Mode. If it does have ArCoSS protection then you need to have AnyDVD running in the background.

You don't have to buy anydvd if you don't mind ripping the whole disc to the harddrive. Anydvd will let you use dvd shrink simultaneously but other free programs are updated to let you rip the newer discs.

Dvd Fab Decrytper and ripit4me are new ones. As far as I know both only allow you to rip the whole disc to the harddrive. I haven't used ripit4me yet so I can't say for certain on that one.

But with dvdfabdecrypter it will rip the full disc to the pc. From there you go to dvdshrink and click "open files" and proceed as normal. After its done you can delete the originally ripped dvd to free up space.

You can use DVDDecrypter
Set DVD Decrypter to use IFO MODE

Then go to the settings tab for IFO mode, and tick the box File Splitting By Chapter
TOOLS --> SETTINGS --> IFO MODE (tab) --> File Splitting by chapter --> OK
(you can choose to include or exclude certain chapters if you wish.)

This will rip a .VOB file of the chapter with no loss.

Note that DVDDecrypter stopped updating about a year ago and so it may have some problems with newer DVD titles.
