I've looked at Compusa, Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City, Target.... And I can't find -R DL media in a local store...
Is mail order the only place to get it??
NOTE: My Pioneer DVR-531hs uses -R media, not +R or -R like my PC.. I have 1 program I recorded at a high encoding rate, so its about 8 gig, that I want to burn before I upgrade the hard drive... BUT re-encoding to fit on a standard -RW doesn't look that great... Playing off the hard drive looks way way better...
Newegg has the Verbatim -R 3 pack for $12.99 plus shipping... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817507001 since I've ordered from there before, it looks like that is what I'll need to do... Unless I can run to a store to pick it up..

It gives time estimates for recording to DL +R discs, mentions "you can only record to Dual Layer DVD-R Discs using this unit in Video mode. you cannot record to tehse discs using VR mode." along with other notes/info...
It had better be able to use Dual Layer -R Discs... -
I know of no retail store to buy -R DL. Furthermore, a lot of folks might argue that since the only -R DL media available is really Ritek/Ridata at the moment, you may have quality issues even if you do find it. If you can wait, Taiyo-Yuden is coming out with a -R DL, though I still doubt you will see it at retail anytime soon.

MCC has DVD-R DL media, use that. Best DL media (both formats).
TY is overrated. Waiting is pointless, it may never happen either.
Ritek has DVD-R DL? Not seen any.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I just got back from CompUSA. Verbatim DVD-R DL media was available in three packs for $11.99 but more importantly Sony BD-R's (25GB) were being sold in two packs(store wrapped it appeared) for $25. I didn't get any DL media but I picked to two packs of the BD-R discs. At 50 cents a gigabyte I am quite happy. So far in the optical realm that is the cheapest first brick and mortar store purchase for such media I have ever made.

After paying taxes and such it might be cheaper getting them from newegg. So if you don't find them at your store you are not really spending much more to have them shipped to your door. I prefer to buy media locally that way if there is a problem I can return it. For bulk projects I buy online otherwise it is local media that serves me best.

BUT my Compusa didn't have Verbatim -R DL... heck they didn't have the Verbatim +R DL packs either... the only dual layer they had was +R DL Memorex 5packand a +R DL Sony 2pk... so no, -R DL locally...
I guess.. NEWEGG here I come....
