Can someone advise me, is DGIndex supposed to decode 2-channel AC3 to wav?
I don't know if I mis-understand the program's features, or if I have my settings wrong.

I'm using DGIndex to demux audio tracks out of vob files on my hard-drive.

It decodes AC3 *5.1* track to a wav file with no problem,
but it refuses to do that for a 2-channel track.

So for now, I use DGIndex to demux the 2-channel AC3 track, and use BeSure to convert that to wav.

    Thanks for your help.

I did not know that. Hmm. Well, the program's author is planning on dropping support for AC3-WAV eventually anyway, so Besweet might be the way to go. DGindex is an essential program if you're using AviSynth to transcode your Mpeg and/or VOBs- Vfapi as well. That's where the app really excels.[/code]

I use DGIndex all the time but I would suggest just demuxing the audio then using another audio specific tool to convert from AC-3 to WAV or whatever it is you want to do.

GOLDWAVE is good for converting 2.0 AC-3 to WAV format. For 5.1 AC-3 to WAV there are other choices that work well such as BeSweet/BeLight or HeadAC3he etc.

    Hi guys, thanks for responding.
I just figured I had my settings twisted, it seemed odd that it does a 6-channel track but won't do a 2-channel track.

So, sounds like 2-channel AC3 will just have to be a 2-step procedure.
But it's simple to do even with two steps.

I didn't know GoldWave could do that.
I've been pretty happy with BeSure, it is so bone-simple to use, but will try using my Goldwave demo
( I still have over 2500 commands left before it locks up )

    Thanks again
    (you know I'll be back)

If you have an AVI file that you downloaded ... like a DivX or XviD file ... with MP3 audio (be it CBR or VBR) ... GOLDWAVE is the best tool to use to save the audio to a WAV file.

Just load the AVI then save as a WAV file.

    GOLDWAVE has many great uses

And yes my download is still going strong ... I wonder when the damn thing locks up LOL

Just reporting back that I broke the GoldWave capability to handle AC3.

My first try got error "failure to accesss ntdll.dll"
Google found a fix for that, so I downloaded and installed AC3Filter.

I then successfully used Goldwave to load, edit, and export as wav file.

I could even load the AC3 file into freeware WavePad and edit there.
    so happy

Then I installed SUPER to check that out, and I think the install broke something, but un-install and System Restore didn't fix it.
Now I am back to the ntdll error, and WavePad just crashes.
    so sad

I will try again in a few weeks after I finish all my current projects and restore my computer to factory settings, and start all over again with a clean bed.

But it's all good, DGIndex and BeSure still work just fine for my AC3 conversions.
Thanks guys, you gave me some good input.

DGIndex should be able to work on the 2 channel AC3, and it works on the ones I have. If you want to make a problematic stream available I'll be happy to look at it and make a fix if there is a problem. PM me about it as I may not check in here very often.

And it's not true that I plan to drop support for decoding AC3.

    Update on this issue...

grannyGeek sent me a VOB to illustrate the problem. I was able to decode it fine. Apparently grannyGeek did not set the track number to Track 2, as this is where the AC3 was present, and not on Track 1, which is the default set by DGIndex.

    So, no problem found.

    OOPS
sometimes being a newbie can be awfully embarrassing.

Neuron2, I do thank you for solving the mystery for me.

I won't be able to get through this learning curve without this forum.
