I did a search on this and didn’t come up with anything.

I’m getting a DVD Shrink error which reads in part:

    “Target Size Exceeded
    DVD size too big
    Ensure video set to automatic”

But I do have video set to automatic.

I’ve used Shrink a lot on another PC and never have run into this problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled shrink once BEFORE having this problem.

Anyone know how to fix this? (Shrink version 3.2.0.15)

Shrink can only do so much in one pass. If the video is large, you might have to run the output through a second time, or use a different program that re-encodes instead of transcodes. DVD Rebuilder may be able to do it for you.

If you are shrinking the entire DVD, reauthor instead and just do the main movie. If you really want the extras, you could put them on a second disc. Or use a DL disc and DVD Decrypter, ISO read>ISO write to DL.

Isn't that message in DVDShrink more of a warning than an error ?

I'm sure I've deliberately outputted oversize material in DVDShrink before.

IIRC you should just be able to say OK to that warning and continue on.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I did reauthor and still got the message.

I hooked my old PC back up that I've done alot of backups on, and to my surprise got the same error.

I finally broke the main movie in 2 parts as a test and then it worked.

  5. Simply download the latest version of DVDFab Decrypter. I believe it's 2.9.8.0. Then open the decrypted files with DVD Shrink. Presto!!! Problem solved!!!

How does this solve the problem ?

Even when reauthoring, depending on how the original was encoded, and what headroom there is in the bitrate, Shrink may still be unable to give you the full reduction in one pass. The solution is usually one of the following :

    1. Split the disc, as you have done
    2. Load the results from DVD Shrink back into Shrink and shrink it again. I would not recommend this, as the damage likely to result from being transcoded twice isn't worth the time
    3. Use DVD Rebuilder instead.

I guess the problem was with that one movie, and one I had never experienced before.

I now have things working normally as before on my new PC. I may try rebuilder in the future as a result of this.

    Thanks for your comments.

  8. Shrink does go weird with some , maybe more modern, encrypted movies, certainly decrypting first seems to help sometimes.
