  1. Between Vdub and VdubMod, which is the best to use to filter an .avi file, apply filters, and frameserve with an encoder (to MPEG-2 format for later DVD authoring)?

I realize that this is just a question asking for people's opinion, but I'd love to hear from some people who have used both and had a preference. I am just getting started, and didn't know which one would be best to use.

  2. They are pretty much the same for filtering and frame serving. The main differences are that Mod can open many more types of files (without resorting to AVISynth) including MPEG2, MKV, and OGM. It can also save in formats other than AVI (but not MPEG) and it has more flexibility in multiplexing audio. Mod has some built in support for AVISynth which can make opening other files a little easier.

I also like VDMs method of handling the audio settings better than VD. It makes more sense to me to have the 'Stream list' and the 'Save WAV' on the same page. But that's more of a personal preference.
