Recently my trusty old Philips DVDR72 recorder went south never to return. I am looking for a replacement that has the same capabilities with Premiere Pro but maybe more features.
My Philips would allow me record video right from the Premiere Pro timeline (VSH quality or better) with only a fast render of the time line.
I tried replacing it with a LiteON but the unit would not recoginze the signal from my computers 1394 output. Was this a DRM issue? The blasted thing worked fine with a camcorder! I contacted LiteON with no real response except see FAQ which covers how to turn on and off! I tried it on a friends system with Premiere Pro but with the same results. I tried replacing the 1394 card but no help there.

Has anyone found s standalone DVD recorder with this capability and maybe DVD +/- R/RW capability?
Maybe faster write and/or dual layer?
My old Philips was + only but I could drop the files to DVD shrink an make a copy to - format with no problem.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

A reply to my own request. Running out of time so I went out and bought a new Philips DVDR 3355 and tried to connect with the 1394 port on my computer. XP said it was installing driver for new device but came up with somthing like Domeino and then nothing. Normally a recorder would come up in My Computer as a digital camera/video device but nothing. Of course no output from Premiere Pro. Sooooo, I called Philips tech support and got the "I don't know" then the reply "it will work with any 1394 true audio/video signal". What? WHat did that mean? I connected a camcorder to the Philips an it worked like a charm. Back to the computer, still nothing. I sware these companies are kissing the great DRM butt in the sky and telling them it's ice cream. I returned the recorder and marked Philips off the buy list. I left them a wondefull email too.
I was going to try SONY next but those guys are sleeping with DRM and don't mind hacking into your system to prove it so, I won't buy from SONY period. Checking out an LG recorder next.

Amazing, your trying to edit your own video and these clowns think your a pirate. A-wipes!
Let you know what I come up with on the LG.
