  1. A few years aqo I was using Roxio software to burn my files to dvd or cd. I stopped using Roxio due to complications which I later found out had to do with Roxio attempting to add some sort of algorithims or something to keep hackers from stealing the software.

I started using NERO, which had none of these type issues.

Now, I am having the same problems. I convert my DV files from my camcorder into Xvid and then burn them onto DVDR as data. Now I have been noticing that the files burn but they will not run after they are finished burning. Or some files will work on the dvd or cd but some wont on the same dvd or cd.

6 months ago using the same media and the same burner i had no problems. I have attempted to update firmwares, softwares, etc etc. with no satisfaction. I have noticed after searching these forums that alot of other people are having the same exact problems.

I personally am very annoyed and at the end of my rope. Please can someone come up with a solution that works.

What brand of dvd media are you using? Use DVDINFO PRO or DVD IDENTIFER to find out the MEDIA ID then post it here. Perhaps your NEC 1300 dvd burner maybe failing.

Your HP 530R is actually a rebadged LITEON 832s drive. What firmware are you using on your drive? I'd suggest you try a different brand of dvd media like VERBATIM or TAIYO YUDEN which can come under the brands SONY & FUJI which the spindles must say "MADE IN JAPAN". The older LITEON drives like the one you have favor DVD+R media than DVD-R. Try a spindle of DVD+R media. It maybe time for a upgrade to a newer dvd burner. LITEON has come a long way in dvd burners but I prefer BENQ 1640/1650 dvd burners and the PIONEER 111 series.

Here's a link for your HP 530R drive that has the latest firmware.

  5. I recently ( last month ) upgraded my firmware to the appropriate firmware according to the link you gave. I am also using SlySoft AnyDVD which has enabled me to successfully burn a few dvd's.

I wonder... I have recently had problems with the pc shutting down on its own. after along process of narrowing down the problem, i finally found it to be a program i was running. The program is called WeatherPulse( http://tropicdesigns.net/weatherpulse.php ). As long as i dont run Weatherpulse there seems to be no problems with my pc. I had also done a complete antivirus scan among other things.

There ain't nuthin' wrong with Fuji discs. That's all I use in my Liteon 1673s and 1693s.
The first Liteon that I bought was an 812s and it didn't last me 6 months. First it lost it's CD read and write capabilities and after doing a firmware upgrade it pretty much bit the dust. It will still run but very slow reading DVDs (no CDs) and puts a huge load on the OS so it's sitting on a self. To stubburn to throw it in the thrash can. I think what pisses me off the most is that I payed 2 to 3 times as much as I payed for the newer, faster, more dependable burners.

LITEON has always favored DVD+R media than DVD-R. The OP is using DVD-R media. Suggesting using a different brand of dvd media could narrow down the source of the nitestalker49's problem. I never said there was anything wrong with FUJI media.
