Does anybody here use these tweaked versions of ATI drivers?
What are the advantages over what ATI releases?
What's "wrong" with what ATI releases?

    TIA!

  2. I have had these drivers recomended to me, but have never used them... I have been having some problems with my AIW 9600Pro (sent in for RMA work 3 times Now!)
So I have put off trying these drivers untill all is settled with my card (I don't want to give ATi any way of pointing the finger back at me)....But I do plan on trying them.

The guy has a list of all the bugs that he fixes in his version of the Drivers listed and some additional stuff that he has added... Quite an indepth knowledge of the drivers he has... I would like him to come over to my house and see what he could do with my machine .

As an aside has anyone tried the new media Center that ATI released recently? (V 6.13) I do not like it and If anyone knows were to find a newer version above 6.8 (ie. 6.10) that would be cool.

Sorry that my two cents wasn't much help.

meh, I have not been impressed with any of ATI's media center versions....
I found the dude's site, but it looks like most of his modifications are geared toward high-end gaming?
hehe, my gaming on the PC is usually more towards the low-end -- old-skool console emulation, MAME, and various other 2D scrolling shooters.

I have been using these on my 9600 XT since I installed it. The ATI drivers always gave me a corrupt cursor (black box full of dots). The omega drivers are faster than the standard drivers in most instances, install some nice tweak tools to enhance video playback of a number of formats not supported by the ATI drivers, and have been rock solid as far as system stability is concerned. I wouldn't go back to ATI's drivers if you paid me.

  5. omega drivers...i've used em once or twice before......they literally ARE the same drivers as the ATI ones...just less bulk, and more stuff unlocked that ATI blocks out of their releases.....basically so IF you happen to mess with a setting that could mess up your card/display (and yes, they do exist in the omega settings......) that they can't be held responsible.....if i remember right, there's settings in the omega drivers to overclock your vid card from within windows....stuff like that...and it also allows you a HUGE range of selectable screen resolutions.....so yes, they are better, but if you dont know what your doing, your best just sticking to the standard ATI ones....kinda a user beware type thing, i guess......

and yes, the optimizations are geared towards gaming, for the most part...but i dont know many people that have aftermarket video cards that arent using it for gaming of some sorts.......let alone people that would be able to find the omega drivers....(not that they are hard to find, but i dont think they are geared to the people who use computers for "basic" websurfing, ect.....) you can really get a lot out of your video card with these drivers though.....

  6. The last time I tried the Omegas, for an x700 pro, they severly limited the resolutions available and caused a few lockups on the system I was building. I switched to the standard ATI drivers and haven't had any issues.

Kind of late reply, but I use the Omega's on my AIW 9800 Pro and since that time my system and booting/shutdown are fast and flawless.

The captures I do (with MMC mostly) are flawless too (depending on the source, of course).

I have a problem though with MMC (tried versions 9.08 and 9.02 on this): I cannot set the capture path to the 2nd drive (partition); in case I do, MMC just refuses to capture. It does not crash or anything, but capturing is only possible, when capturing to installation drive.

Note: I tried to install to other than system partition, but in that case the "device not found" error pops up, everytime I try to start TV (in MMC).
