    Hi,

Working with some muxed PAL MPEG2 files that I want to convert to NTSC streams for DVD Studio Pro. Not sure what the best way to go about this is. The files are 740 x 404 which I understand to be the right size for PAL 16:9 files. More info about the files can be found here

I've tried a couple of different settings on ffmpegx but I keep getting the a square file and not a 16:9 file (and always muxed). There's also a 6px black border on the right and left that I would like to crop out during the conversion. Any help or pointers in the right direction would be great. I'm not opposed to reading so links are good too. I've seen a few threads here but mostly going from NTSC to PAL.

    Thanks,

    Jack

  2. No, the correct size for PAL DVDs (both 4:3 and 16:9) is 720x576. For NTSC DVDs it is 720x480. No other sizes are allowed. The difference between 4:3 and 16:9 is merely a software flag in the header.

Thanks for the response. I think I have it solved on my end. I just have one final question. There's a bit of a stutter in the NTSC file. I'm guessing that's beacause of the frame rate difference. Is there a way to fix that or am I just going to have to live with it?

    Thanks,

    Jack

  4. Yes, it is because of the change in framerate, which implies that motion is partly cut (when framerate is reduced) or partly frozen (when framerate is increased).
