  1. I am coming from the Windows world to Mac. So much for using Shrink and decrypter and Xcopy. Is there a one click deal like shrink for Mac? I have Mac the ripper but I guess I'll need some type of burning module to cook the blank DVD?
I did some searches but did not turn up much useful stuff for the Mac world.

No extra software needed, you can burn directly from the finder. Toast is a full featured program that can also be used for automatic backups, DVD/CD authoring, DivX encoding and much more.

  3. Do a search on Version Tracker for Mac The Ripper. This is a decrypting software much like your Windows decrypters. Burn the output using Toast V 7.xx which compresses the files (if necessary) and burns it to a DVD-/+R disc.

    linetest,

I don't see your setup listed in your profile. If you are using one of the new Intel Macs, you may download BootCamp from Apple and use a Windows XP SP2 disc (I'm assuming you still have yours from your old, deceased PC). This will permit you to use DVDShrink, etc.

Otherwise, Toast is a good choice. Alternatively, you may use DVD Imager (available here: http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html ) to create the UDF image file with that VIDEO_TS folder enclosed. Then use Apple's Disk Utility to burn that image file to disc.

God luck and let us know how it goes.

  5. Sorry on the config. It's a new Mini core Duo. I loaded osX on a external firewire drive. I deleted the internal drive and installed WinXP. Everything looks good but I get errors using Shrink and Nero. It won't autoburn in Nero. Don't know if shrink is a problem, or Nero, or something with the burner setup on this hardware. Again, I'm not an "advanced" user, both on Mac and all this ripper stuff. That's why I used Shrink, it didn't need my "help" :P
I may get Toast then if that seems solid with Mac the ripper. Has anyone had problems with any DVD's using this combo? ie Disney, etc?

Disc encryption is always a moving target. Check with the MTR forums to determine how others are doing this successfully.

Roxio released a UB version of Toast (7.2) this morning. DVD Remaster does a nice job of compressing your rip'd VIDEO_TS folders down to size (better quality than Toast, IMHO).

A really interesting burning app is "Burnz". It's cheap and has an interesting file system philosophy. Basically, it has a slider that you move to set the desired file system. Of note, however, is that each higher setting encompasses the file systems below it. In other words: Setting the file system to HFS+ makes a disc that, assuming all else is Kosher with the VIDEO_TS folder, also plays in a DVD player because, to that player, the disc shows up as UDF. The app also lets you spec an icon for the disc (and you may add jpegs which it will turn into icons). Pretty slick stuff. Burnz may be found here: http://www.thinkertons.com/burnz_features.htm

(I don't have anything to do with the Burnz app except that I'm a satisfied customer.)
