    My NEC Drive in my Laptop is not able to burn 16x media. I've tried a few different FW Update and they always cause problems afterward with disk read/writes, and I've always gone back to my original FW. Is anyone here using this drive and has succesfully updated it to burn 16x media ?

    It's an 8x drive which means it does not burn 16x. It is also several years old so some newer media may never be recognized in that drive. That being said I had to repair one late last year and after the repair it would burn 16x memorex media at 8x.
