    Hello

I noticed that BEST BUY has a PNY NVIDIA Geforce 7300 GS 256MB PCIe card on sale this week for $79.99

I checked the PNY website and they have the card for the same $79.99 but charge shipping so I am better off buying it from BEST BUY if I want to buy it.

    But that is the question!

Is this video card any good?

I've had DOOM III since it came out and never really played it much at all since it was slow on my NVIDIA Geforce FX 5300 128MB PCIe (my current video card since December 2004 when I bought a new computer).

I found some benchmarks on TOMS HARDWARE but they didn't have the 7300 in the benchmark. I tried searching that website for "Geforce 7300" and got nothing.

BTW here is a direct link to the PNY website for this video card ---> CLICK HERE

Let me know what you guys/gals think.

    P.S.
I would like to be able to play HALF LIFE 2 as well although I never did get around to buying it ... yet.

I think the ars technical.com forum keeps a good chart in their forums on the order of performance.

As far as will it PLAY doom 3? Likely.

I got an ATI X300 to play Half Life 2 quite well, but the rest of the hardware was kicking some ass so take from that what you will.

Update they list that cards as

"Entry level (sub $100, at or below 1024x768 on new games)"

I've seen used nVidia 6600 gt with 128mb go for around $60 on ebay. I'd suggest one of those instead.

If you must have that card I'd check this first though.

I can probably live with that as long as it does DOOM III and HALF LIFE 2 well at 1024x768 ... after all those both came out in the Fall of 2004 so you would think this 7300GS would handle them ...

BTW what is the link to that website? I can't seem to find it.

I tried technical.com and arstechnical.com but those are both wrong. I don't know what "ars technical.com" is without a link

Check out the PNY Geforce 7600 GS at Best Buy. It is on sale for $129 and I'm running Battlefield 2 at 1024x768 with all settings on high and it looks and runs great.

Yes I am actually leaning towards getting that one IF I get anything at the moment. The sale is still good for the next few days.

However I thought I saw a 512MB 7600GS at NEW EGG for around $150 whereas the one at BEST BUY is only 256MB so ... I might wait and get the one at NEW EGG.

Which is why I said IF I get something now ... I may pass up the cheaper 7300 GS and end up buying NOTHING until I have more money saved up.

    LOL
