That's a disc image, IIRC, to be used in the Mac burning program, Toast. (I say IIRC, because although I have a Mac, I don't use Toast.)

It's a Mac program, similar to what Nero does for the PC. I assume we are talking about the same program.

Of course, before anybody else says it, 'You forget to take it out of the toaster'. Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

EDIT: I also see that the .toast extension can be an image file, but I think you may need a Mac to open it. From a Mac forum:
.toast files are really just disk image files created in Toast. I don't think they're used much anymore, but you should be able to burn them directly to disk or open them in a newer version of toast.

Yeah, but (IIRC) Toast uses the file extension .toast for its own format of disc image, I think.

Some individuals and distributions are repackaging id software releases for Linux and apple into their own installers. We need to insist here again that this is not legal. You can not tamper with id software's intellectual property by redistributing the games under a modified form. The only distribution format for id games on GNU/Linux/apple is the installer we provide. In particular, it is essential that all users acknowledge the End User License Agreement prompt before any installation. DOOM III is a proprietary product, and it cannot be handled in the same way as free software products would.
