I am not sure what forum to put this post in so I put it here. Sorry if it's in the wrong place. I wanted to know if anyone has experience with either Nro 7 Ultra or Roxio Easy Media Creator 8. I currently have Nero7 and Roxio (sonic) 6.1. Roxio has told me that the two programs do not co-exist on a pc nicely and can cause many conflicts. My PC has been working just fine with both Nero 7 and Roxio 6.1 for over 1 year. I am trying to decide if I should upgrade to Roxio 8. In order to make the choice I wanted to know if anyone had relevant experience with both or one of them and any thoughts on how they compare and if they can actually co-exist or does upgrading Roxio mean I have to uninstall Nero?

    Thank You,
    Daniel

I gave up on Roxio products. They have too many conflicts with the system and other software. With Nero, it's important to download and install the latest updates. The early versions of Nero 7 have some major bugs. The latest version seems pretty clean. I suspect some of the "Nero is no good" comments people have made are due to early version bugs.

Sonic Solutions (now part of Roxio) have always stated that there may be problems when their products are installed on a system that also has Nero installed .... however the problem seems to be when sonic's DLA and/or Nero's INCD product is installed (INCD is Nero's packet writing software .. whilst DLA is sonic's packet writing product) .... if you don't have INCD or DLA installed then both products seem to run ok .... i no longer use nero but i used to have both nero and sonic products on my system but couldn't use sonic's DLA without first uninstalling Nero ... similally i couldn't use nero's INCD without first uninstalling the sonic products ..... as this became a pain in the ass i decided to drop nero and stick with the sonic products .... however i no longer use their DLA product as hdd's have gotten so large i no longer find the need to use cdrw's as read/write/update storage medium

Roxio is made for children. It's interface is setup for pre-schoolers. Nero 7 is more professional looking and is much easier to use.

ROF - For what it's worth, I really could not agree more with you and I sure couldn't have said it so succinctly. I don't know if it's still true because I think Roxio is pure crap and I do NOT keep up with it, but in the past Roxio did not allow you to overburn. This was a really useful feature in Nero and I would never consider using a burning software package that doesn't allow for overburning. Friends don't let friends use Roxio and I really would not recommend that you upgrade. What would you get from an upgrade that you can't already do?

I gave up with Roxio at version 3 (I think). Had too many problems with it. Then, I think I purchased a new CD burner at the time many years ago which came with Nero. Been using Nero ever since.

Thanks for all your replies. My sole reason for an interest in Roxio is that it is the only software I know of that can easily transcode and burn files transfered from a tivo to a pc. If anyone know of any other way to do this please let me know in addition to any further comments on Roxio/Nero comparisons. The comments are quite helpful. (The problem being tivo encrpts its avi's so that as far as I know you need to go through the whole demuxing - splitting audio/video then decrypting then re-encoding. whihc needless to say is a pain in the ***)

    Thanks

  8. Roxio is total shite.Stay away.

I used it when I first bought a PC and didn't know jack about computers.

Nero is 100 times better.Go with Nero.I like Nero 6.Nero 7 is buggy and bloatware and I was stupid enough to upgrade without testing it out first.Wasted my money totally.

PrassiOnes is a non bloat nice piece of software also.Just for the burning part anyway.

ImgBurn is without a doubt the BEST tool for burning DVD Images if your looking solely for DVD Burning Software as your topic title indicates.Just use ImgTool Classic to convert your DVD Video Files to ISO first. Its that simple dude.

    One more question....

As someone said the main conflict that has been found with Roxio/Nero running together is the Nero INCD/ Roxio DLA conflict. I admit I am new. Can someone tell me what exactly these do. I have had both on my system (Nero 7 and Roxio 5.2) for a while. I use Nero almost exclusively. I have burned data dvds, transcoded to dvd-video, and burned data cds without problem with nero. As I said in my last post I only use Roxio because it accpets the tivo files. So again if someone has an alternative please let me know.

    Thanks

Truthfully, I have yet to encounter bugs in Nero 7. What has everyone else experienced?

The latest version seems pretty clean. I haven't experienced any problems with it. The initial versions had some serious bugs. You can look at the version history information on Nero's web site and see some the problems that were fixed in the earlier versions. http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/13007.html

    For no-frills burning....check Prassi Ones.
For DVD Video...I don't use Roxio or Nero(I have neither installed).
    DVDFabDecrypter
    DVDDecrypter
    DVDShrink
    ImgBurn
    TDA
    Virtualdub (mpeg)
    Womble MPEG-VCR
and Prassi Ones for data and music burning.
The wife uses Musicmatch for music.

If I can't accomplish what I want the above...it is too complicated for me anyway and shouldn't be attempting it in the first place...

So with all the quetions I've been asking about decrypting tivo files.....

I found, actually read about from another user here (thanks to psx_pirate for the suggestion to search and thanks to rkr1958 for the help with the utility) Anyway the util is called Direct Show Dump Utility. It converted the encrypted tivo DRM to mpeg-2. The only caveat is that, at least with the file I tried which was recorded at medium quality, it prodcued a 352x480 resolution file. I think that may be a result of the initial recording quality. Does anyone else have expereince with this?
    Thanks,

    -Daniel

  16. Cool that you haven't encountered any bother with Nero7,dfishman923 and your probably right that most bugs are now fixed,SCDVD.
I still occasionally see threads regarding issues with the latest versions on different websites though.

I gave up on Nero7 a while ago and haven't downloaded the newer versions since. The reason being is that I still prefer Nero6 and find nothing better with 7 and its too bloated for my liking.

    @dfishman923

I'm sorry I've been ignoring your original question,I just wanted to inform you of tools that work well for me,as Nero and Roxio are not the best out there anymore IMO.

    @hech54

You have a similar setup of tools to me.

WooHoo! A kindly user recommended VideReDo (www.videoredo.com). I've used it successsfully now to decrypt, re-mux, and automatically remove commercials. Thought you might be interested in it.

Thought some of you would be interested.
    Thanks,
