  1. I have in hand only the VOB files of a dvd
I would like to know if I can do something to extract the video content to any other format
What tools would you recommand for this operation ?

    thanx

well if you want it back to dvd ifoedit will make new ifos. if you want vcd/svcd/xvid/etc. start with vob2mpg to get it back to a single mpg and from there use your encoder of choice. powerdirector 5 is a good all purpose/convert it to any format, choice if you don't have anything and want something fairly easy to use.

  5. I would like to go mpg-2 but any format is ok because I could always reconvert it
I just need to get the content of the file.

    you have other suggestions
    to mpg-2, div-x or xvid ?

VOB2MPG for MPEG output. I think you might have to recreate the IFOs though first. http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/test.htm#ifoedit tells you how.

    Virtualdub-MPEG2 for DivX or XVID.
    If in doubt, Google it.
