Free Mp3 fader and/or splitter

Hey All,
I have been searching in vain so far for a free mp3 fader and or splitter (which would be a nice bonus). So far I have checked this site, download.com, and google for such a app with little luck, so I am hoping the friendly folks here can help me out. I have tried "cool mp3 splitter", which can both cut up the mp3 and fade in and out, but you have to pay after the trial ends. Really what I want is a free mp3 fader (splitting would be a bonus), or, a last resort would be a free wav fader. Any suggested aps please let me know, thanks!

You might check out the freeware Audacity. It handles MP3, WAV and Ogg audio. It's an audio editor, so it can do more than just split and join or fade.

thanks for the suggestion, that is a great freeware program. I didn't know it can cut/fade, ect.
